Well pump service in Arizona City & Eloy, AZ

The Eloy sub-basin has some of the longest history of groundwater decline in Arizona, and it shows in the wells.

Arizona City, Eloy and the farm country toward Picacho draw on the Eloy sub-basin of the Pinal Active Management Area. Heavy pumping here last century lowered the water table and the land with it: more than 15 feet of subsidence had been measured south of Eloy by 1985, and the first earth fissure in Arizona was noticed near Eloy in 1929. A newer fissure north of the Picacho Mountains formed in 2013 and 2014.

For a well owner, that history means two things. First, wells are deep and pumps hang deep, so a pump pull is real work, and an old well may need its pump re-set lower as the water level changes. Second, ground movement can stress a well casing and the pipe at the wellhead. A casing that has shifted, cracked or started letting in sand is worth a look before the pump pays for it.

Many homes outside the town water systems run on a private well feeding a pressure tank, or a storage tank with a booster pump. In summer heat, the above-ground equipment does it hard: pressure switches, tank bladders and exposed PVC wear out faster in direct sun.

Arizona City & Eloy questions

Asked around Arizona City & Eloy.

Why is my Eloy-area well pumping sand or air?

Air or sputtering often means the water level has dropped close to the pump intake. Sand can point to a damaged screen or casing. Both need a diagnosis on site; stop running the pump hard in the meantime to protect the motor.

Can earth fissures affect my well?

They can. The Arizona Geological Survey lists damaged well casings and wellheads among the common effects of fissures and subsidence. If your wellhead or casing has visibly shifted or cracked, have it checked.
